ChatGPT Prompt: “Effortless Influence”
Power words are the cheat code to compelling, attention-grabbing titles and hooks.
They’re very commonly used in copyrighting and marketing content. However, any type of writer can use them to spice up their work.
Learning how to use them appropriately and ethically is the key.
I built a ChatGPT prompt to generate the perfect headings and hooks using power words.
It’s ideal for pieces of writing where I want to generate an emotional response of some sort.
You're about to learn exactly how to use it.
But why are headings and hooks important in the first place?
Ultimately, if your writing doesn’t get clicks, it doesn’t get read.
Even in traditional publishing, an eye-catching title can make the difference between getting picked up or left on the shelf.
Power words are persuasive words. Different power words trigger different emotions.
Here are some examples:
Fear-inducing: spine-chilling, gruesome, bone-chilling
Urgency-inducing: critical, limited time, last chance
Positive-emotion inducing: breathtaking, delightful, heartwarming
Negative-emotion inducing: heartbreaking, devastating, tragic
Desire-inducing: irresistible, mouthwatering, crave-worthy
Authority-inducing: certified, expert, official
Curiosity-inducing: little-known, insider, secret
Surprise-inducing: mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, astonishing
Anger-inducing: outrageous, infuriating, offensive
Enthusiasm-inducing: exciting, thrilling, electrifying
Guilt-inducing: regretful, shameful, remorseful
Humor-inducing: hilarious, amusing, comical
Confidence-inducing: proven, guaranteed, trusted
Exclusivity-inducing: exclusive, limited edition, rare
Trust-Inducing: guaranteed, proven, trusted
Use the following ChatGPT prompt when you want to inject some emotion into a heading, a subheading, or even an opening sentence.
As always, fill in the blanks you feel would be most relevant to your specific piece of writing. Then, copy and paste it into ChatGPT.
Hi, ChatGPT. “Power words" are words that are emotionally charged and intended to evoke a response from the reader. Let's find the perfect power word to include within a [title, subheading, sentence] in my article. The power word should [insert desired effect/emotion, eg. the emotions in the bullet list above]. Consider action verbs, sensory adjectives, number or time-related terms, and question words. Please use the following information to help you come up with a list of 10 emotionally charged [titles, subheadings, sentences] I can use for my writing:
Topic or theme of my article: [insert]
Target audience: [insert]
Tone or style of the article: [e.g., professional, casual, humorous, inspirational, persuasive, provocative, authoritative]
Context of the title or subheading: [insert a brief description of the title or subheading where the power word will be used]
Degree of emphasis (optional): [e.g., subtle, moderate, or strong]
Maximum number of words (optional): [Insert]
Here’s an example where I used the prompt to generate a list of headings for an article on building a sustainable wardrobe.
This is what ChatGPT’s response was. I asked for the emotions to be included in brackets at the end, just to help illustrate the point.
Zoom in if you have to.

Some are going to be better than others. If any of them catch your eye, ask ChatGPT to give you variations of them.
Consider changing up the parameters in the prompt (eg. tone, emphasis) to see the difference it makes too.
Enjoy.
