🐝 Beehiiv

There are two email marketing platforms I love — Beehiiv and Convertkit.

This newsletter currently runs on Beehiiv.

  • Unbelievable analytics.

  • A flat fee pricing model (i.e. you don’t get punished for growing your list).

  • Fancy additional features built-in; referral programs, polls, ad monetization, and more.

The main benefit of Convertkit over Beehiiv — it’s better suited to selling digital products.

While I may switch to Convertkit one day for this reason, I’ll have to come to terms with the more expensive pricing model.

For now, I’m super happy on Beehiiv and wouldn’t have been able to scale to almost 10K subscribers so quickly without them.

2 Content Ideas With Headline Templates To Make Them Work In Your Niche

The Process:

  • 🔎 Take a great headline from any niche.

  • 🧠 Figure out the psychology behind why it works.

  • 🔨 Turn the headline into a template.

  • 🎨 Think of ways to use the template in your niche.

Try these two out…

Idea 1: What You Wish You Knew Before

🔨 Your Headline Template:

"[Number] Things I Wish I Knew Before [Action or Experience]"

🔎 The Inspiration:

“17 Things I Wish I Knew Before Visiting Thailand In 2024”

Joel Friend [link]

🧠 Why The Headline Works:

  • Loss Aversion: We all want to avoid losses, so learning about someone else’s mistakes is always appealing.

  • Personal Experience: Sharing personal mistakes and experiences makes the content more relatable (see The Pratfall Effect).

  • Specificity: The specific number (17) suggests a well-thought-out and actionable list.

  • Timeliness: “2024” makes the content immediately relevant and up-to-date.

🔁 How To Adapt It For Your Niche:

  1. Find The Action Or Experience: Choose one that’s well-known in your niche but has hidden pitfalls or dangers.

  2. Reflect On Personal Insights: Think about what you wish you had known about that action or experience. Insights that would add value or save trouble for someone in your audience.

  3. Relevance: If applicable, include a timestamp (like the year) to make the content feel fresh and urgent.

🎨 Examples Using The Template:

  • For Techies: “7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Building My First PC”

  • For Entrepreneurs: “11 Things I Wish I Knew Before Raising VC Funding In 2024”

  • For Fitness Enthusiasts: “15 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting CrossFit Training In 2024”

  • For Home Chefs: “9 Things I Wish I Knew Before Trying Vegan Cooking”

  • For Videographers: “5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Filming My First Wedding”

Idea 2: The Basics That Lead To Remarkable Outcomes In Your Niche

🔨 Your Headline Template:

“"The [Number] Basics Of [Skill Or Topic] For [Desired Outcome]"

🔎 The Inspiration:

“The Eight Basics Of Landscape Design For A Beautiful Garden”

Epic Gardening [link]

🧠 Why The Headline Works:

  • Aspiration: Promises a transformation or achievement, tapping into our desire for improvement.

  • Ease: 'Basics' suggests easy-to-understand, manageable steps, making the goal seem more achievable.

  • Structure: A specific number gives you a sense of structure and completeness.

  • Visualization: Mentioning the outcome (like a 'Beautiful Garden') helps the audience visualize the end result.

🔁 How To Adapt It For Your Niche:

  1. Define The Desired Outcome First: Start by picking an ideal end result or transformation in your niche. The more specific, the better.

  2. Work Backward To Identify Basics: Figure out the essential steps, skills, or elements needed to achieve that outcome.

  3. Select An Appropriate Number: Choose a number that covers the basics without overwhelming your audience.

🎨 Examples Using The Template:

  • For Investing: “The Eight Basics Of Investing For Building Your First $10,000 Portfolio”

  • For Fitness: “The Five Basics Of HIIT For Maximum Fat Loss”

  • For Writers: “The Seven Basics Of Audience Building For A Successful Book Launch”

  • For Marketing: “The Five Basics Of Instagram Marketing For 100K Subs In 24 Months”

  • For DIY: “The Six Basics Of Woodworking For Beautiful Living Room Furniture”
