-CONTENT PRODUCTION-
COPY AI
(Not sponsored)
Copy.ai is an AI-powered content generator.
While it has a wide range of features, you could distill its purpose down to this:
To help marketers and creators produce content with maximum efficiency and with minimal headache.
It’s a chat-based interface where you input “prompts” and get responses back - just like ChatGPT.
So, why would you use a tool like Copy AI instead of simply using ChatGPT?
Well, because it’s essentially custom-made for marketers and creators.
It’s as if ChatGPT were dressed up as Seth Godin.
Copy AI has a large library of content-focused prompts to choose from, as well as other features that make it easier for marketers/creators.
It requires less hand-holding than a tool such as ChatGPT would and saves time as a result.
It’s a paid tool (pricing info below), but there’s a free plan to have some fun with.
What You Can Do With It đź’Ş
Choose from a library of prompts for tasks including generating headlines, product descriptions, Twitter threads, LinkedIn posts, Instagram captions, and blog posts.
Store specific data about your brand. This is useful because Copy AI can refer to this data to produce responses that are more in line with your content. You won’t have to remind it what your brand/publication is and does with each prompt (like you would with ChatGPT).
Train it to respond in your specific brand voice after feeding it some of your content.
While it caters to a bunch of different types of creators, there’s a significant focus on marketing and copywriting.
đź’¨ Quickstart Guide
If you wanted to get started with their free plan, here’s a quick guide:
1. Sign up for free at https://www.copy.ai
Make use of the 2000 word/month allowance to get a flavor.
Sign into your account.
2. Enter some details about your brand or publication
Click “Infobase” on the left sidebar.

Click the green “Add Info” button —» the Info sidebar will then open on the right.
Create a hashtag for your publication/brand’s core information.
For example, I created a #newsletter with the following information:

I can then refer to the #newsletter hashtag in my prompts, so I don’t have to keep repeating this information with each prompt.
Copy AI will pull this information into the prompt whenever I use that hashtag.
3. Create a “brand voice”
This is how you train Copy AI to respond in your voice.
Click “Brand Voice” on the left sidebar → “New Brand Voice”

Paste around 300 words of your own content and wait for it to analyze the tone.
You can create multiple “brand voices” and select any of them when writing your prompts in Copy AI.
The responses you get will then be tailored to the specific voice you choose.
4. Create a new project and start prompting
Click “New Project” in the top right corner.
You’ll get a screen that looks similar to ChatGPT - a chat screen with a box to type your prompts into.
Click “Browse Prompts” in the search box to open a range of prompts you can choose from.

The prompts are categorized by department and task - eg. content/SEO, email marketing, social media, and so on.
Select the prompt template you want to use and select the Brand Voice you created in Step 3.
Fill in the blanks of the prompt template and click enter.
Alternatively, simply type in your own prompt.
Feel free to use the Infobase hashtags (created in Step 2) to get a more tailored response.
Then, refine the response by chatting back and forth with Copy AI, just as you would with ChatGPT.
Limitations
A few of the prompt templates are disappointing and way too brief. Eg. the prompt for “Blog Post” is literally just a couple of sentences.
The tool seems to be more targeted toward social media creators, marketers, and copywriters. While bloggers will still find it useful (especially the brand voice/Infobase features), it won’t be the best tool for SEO-optimized blog content. I’d say KoalaWriter was first in class for this right now.
If you’re a blogger, check out KoalaWriter (affiliate link) if you’re interested. I use it regularly.
Pricing
Free - 2000 words/month. Great for getting started.
Pro - $36/month (paid annually) or $49/month (paid monthly)
The Bottom Line 👨‍⚖️
Try it out.
Ultimately, there’s nothing to lose by testing out the free plan.
It’s an enjoyable and interesting experience for a creator and marketer.
But whether you’d be willing to pay for the Pro plan really depends on how much you value the convenience of a tool like this over a free/cheaper tool like ChatGPT.
The only way you’ll really know is by trying it out yourself.
Enjoy!
Is this the type of tool you want to learn about? |
