⚙ HEADLINE FIX-UP: A WORKED EXAMPLE
Bad Headline Of The Day:
"The Best Men’s Wallets To Buy On A Budget"
Sure, the headline is clear enough.
But it’s boring and doesn’t speak to the audience’s emotions.
It won’t stand out among the many other pieces of content it has to compete with.
It will be ignored…
No matter how good the content might be.
Using the Headline Fix-Up process, I turned it into a “magnetic headline” that would drive clicks on demand.
(And it took less than 30 seconds).
I’ve broken down the transformation below.
While I don’t go into as much detail here, you get to see just how easy and effective it can be.
Let’s get to it.
Apply Ultra-Specificity
There are several ways we could add ultra-specificity to this headline.
Here’s what I ended up including:
The exact number of wallets recommended in the content (eg. 7).
Exactly how affordable the wallet recommendations are (eg. less than $100).
💡 Improved Headline: “The Top 7 Men’s Wallets You Can Buy For Under $100”
It looks better — more digestible, useful, and credible.
But we’re not done yet…
Apply An Emotional Lever
Using one of the 9 emotional levers, we can write an irresistible headline that taps into the audience’s primal desires.
In other words — a “magnetic headline”.
One of the levers stood out as the most appropriate:
Exclusivity: Making it clear that these wallets may be affordable but they still look expensive would be extremely effective.
While it’s true that people care about bargains and value for money, they care even more about how they look in front of others.
The simple addition of “wallets that look expensive” immediately makes the headline so much more enticing.
Why?
Because it taps into our desire for status.
💡 Improved Headline: “The Top 7 Men’s Wallets That Look Expensive (But Cost Less Than $100)
Cut The Fluff
Here, we go through a methodical process for “cutting fluff” from our headline.
Eventually, we end up with the shortest possible headline that provides the maximum emotional impact.
Here’s the final product:
💡 Final Headline: “Top 7 Men’s Wallets That Look Expensive (But Are Under $100)
