Pocket upgrade

A waiter at a mid-level restaurant taught me more about content than half the marketing books I’ve read.

Before I tell you how, one last heads-up:

Sign ups for my live online workshop — “The 3-Minute Lead Magnet” — close at midnight. Save your spot here before it’s too late.

Right, so the place wasn’t fancy.

No tasting menus.

No marble counters.

But I still remember that dinner.

More than the high-end spots.

More than the multi-course nights with perfect plating.

Why?

Because with the menu came a tiny laminated card.

A simple wine-pairing guide.

Smartly designed. Easy to read.

And just big enough to take home.

That was it.

Just something useful — that made the experience feel richer.

I call these “pocket upgrades.”

Tiny takeaways.

Tangible value.

Something they can carry — in their literal or mental pocket.

That’s what great content does.

Not just explain, but equip.

If you want your content to stick, try pairing it with something they can use.

A checklist.

A cheatsheet.

A fill-in-the-blank script.

It doesn’t have to be big.

Just built to move them forward.

Try this for your next piece of content:

[Number] Steps to [Specific Outcome] + ([Tangible Deliverable])

Examples across niches:

  • Gardening: 3 Steps to Grow Basil Indoors + (Free Watering Tracker)

  • HR: 5 Steps to Onboard a New Hire + (Welcome Email Template)

  • Parenting: 4 Steps to Happier School Mornings + (Printable Checklist)

Bottom line:

People remember what they can touch, feel, and take away with them.

P.S. Want to build your own “pocket upgrade” that captures your perfect leads fast?
