Generate Infinite Viral Content Ideas Using Reddit (3-Step Process)

Reddit is a goldmine of content ideas you’d never think to create — proven topics that get clicked, viewed, and shared like crazy.

The problem:

It’s also chaotic — finding these viral content ideas can be a time-consuming, messy process.

That’s where the Reddit Mining Framework comes in — a simple process for finding them quickly and easily.

No guesswork, no hassle.

Just a clear path to on-demand views and engagement.

Here it is:

  1. Find a subreddit (i.e. chat forum) relevant to your niche.

  2. Dig (i.e. “mine”) for potential content ideas — top posts and recurring themes.

  3. Choose the ideas with the highest emotional impact.

Let’s dig into each step.

Step 1: Find the Right Subreddits

Whether you’re a realtor, a food blogger, or anything else, there’s a subreddit full of people talking about your field.

A 'subreddit' is a topic-specific chat forum on Reddit.

Start by identifying subreddits that fit your niche.

For example, if you’re in travel, you might look at subreddits like:

  • r/travel

  • r/solotravel

  • r/travelhacks

Realtors might explore:

  • r/realestate

  • r/realestateinvesting

  • r/firsttimehomebuyer

Here’s what you do:

  1. Type keywords relevant to your niche into Reddit’s main search bar

  2. Filter results by “Communities” to find the best subreddits.

Focus on engagement over size.

A subreddit with 1 million members but only two posts a day is useless.

Subreddits with frequent posts and high comment rates signal an active, engaged community.

Passionate members = rich content ideas.

Step 2: Dig for Content Ideas

The posts and comments on Reddit are often genuine conversations between real people with real experience.

But that doesn’t automatically mean they’ll make for exciting content ideas.

You need to dig deeper

Here’s how:

  • Sort by top posts.

  • Spot recurring themes.

  • Scan the comments.

Sort by Top Posts

Start by sorting the posts in your subreddit by engagement — upvotes and comments.

Use specific timeframes like “top posts of the week” or “top posts of the year.”

Use shorter timeframes (day or week) for fast-moving industries like tech.

For more stable topics like travel, look at the top posts of the past month or year.

Spot Recurring Themes

  • Look for Common Questions or Topics: If you see the same type of question popping up, it suggests an information gap you could create content about.

  • Check for Unique Angles: Topics that offer a new or surprising take on a familiar topic.

Scan The Comments Too:

Comments indicate high interest.

Example: This post in the subreddit “r/travelhacks” had a tonne of engagement:

It was about an airline banning someone for “skip-lagging”.

Skip-lagging is a travel hack where people book a less expensive flight with a layover and then get off the plane at the layover city.

Lots of upvotes and comments.

Plenty of potential for a viral content idea.

But we need to be sure.

That’s where step 3 comes in.

Step 3. Evaluate for Virality

Once you have potential topics, assess their viral potential.

There’s one crucial way of doing this:

Assess the emotional impact.

Look for posts with strong emotional responses in the comments (frustration, concern, excitement, surprise).

Intense reactions suggest there’s viral potential.

Example: The skip-lagging post in “r/travelhacks” generated frustrated comments from people unhappy about what they thought were unfair airline policies.

Here’s one comment:

"If this is illegal, then selling more tickets than there are seats on a plane should be as well."

It calls out what they see as unfair practice — why should airlines be allowed to oversell seats but ban you for skip-lagging?

Let’s come up with a headline…

âťť

“Airlines Will Ban You for Skip-Lagging, So Why Let Them Oversell Seats?”

Super click-worthy.

It taps into a frustration we already know people care about.

You could create a genuinely helpful piece of content that clears up confusion and fills an information gap.

It’s a good example of how Reddit can take the guesswork out of creating high-engagement content.
